Celebrating Sonoma’s Wine & Cheese Connector – Sheana Davis

This playful touch welcomes you to The Epicurean Connection, the perfect point of embarkation for a Sonoma tour. It’s uniquely Sonoma, adorned with art from locals with painted windows reflecting the season. Plan a Tour to San Francisco’s 2 Saturday Farmers Markets
Saturday morning in San Francisco is a farmers market lover’s paradise. And while paradise is best visited by car, it’s well worth the trip: STOP #1: The Ferry Building’s CUESA market teems with all sorts of great coffee and breakfast food vendors, not to mention produce, cheeses and breads in both front and back. OK also not to mention classes and activities. Getting there: For the Ferry Building, drive and park on Howard near Embarcadero. You can get validated at the market. STOP #2: Around the bend, if you’re on the freeway anyway, lies the historic Alemany Farmers Market, which San Francisco started in the 1940s to connect the city…

Taste Talk: California Cuisine & How It’s Evolved at San Francisco Cooking School on Oct. 2
“California Cuisine” is the real thing – a regional culinary POV and movement which is driven by a philosophy of cooking with locally sourced seasonal ingredients. As we all know, it sprouted from Alice Waters and Co.’s culinary revolution hatched in the 1970’s. Today’s cooks (and chefs) are not only inspired (or limited) by French country cooking, but by cuisines from all over the world. This evolution is the topic for a great conversation about where California Cuisine is today, preseented by San Francisco Cooking School and their new “Taste Talk” series for food professionals and anyone interested in the topic. We’ll be there listening in (and asking questions) from…

Free Pasta Sommelier Tastings from Delverde from Abruzzo Italia in SF this September
We’re fans of many Italian dried and extruded pastas because the flours they use have a different taste and feel than our US counterparts. But we can be overwhelmed by all the options in the grocery aisles. So when our friend and Italiano-file Amy Sherman (of Cooking with Amy) shared this “Pasta Sommelier” tasting series of durum wheat semolina pastas hosted by Delverde from Abruzzo’s, we thought we’d share it with our readers. Most of the tastings require a reservation — and some are demos, and all are FREE. See the full selection below. Delverde is a pasta manufacturer from Italy’s Abruzzi region. Several of their events will be hosted…

Best Food Shops in the Bay
Every year, (for 16 years if you can believe it!), I’ve visited all the best new food shops in the Bay and penned the “Bites by the Bay” column including my favorite picks for “Specialty Food” magazine. Locals know (as do the Fancy Food Show visitors), that we have a vibrant and influential culinary retail scene. Over the past few years, the shear number of new spots have been so numerous, it’s been brutal to pare down to nine or ten worthy contenders. Some of the notables spots I’ve featured over the years include Birite market (when it first opened in 1997), Tomales Bay Foods, the Ferry Building Marketplace, Blue…
