May 19th 2012 Food Revolution Day
The first annual Food Revolution Day was a great success: we raised awareness with a large audience of kids and adults, and hopefully inspired some change in their food habits, along with sharing better food and education. Thanks to everyone who came out to support it, and especially to CUESA for hosting the demos and Sprouts Cooking Club for creating our kids demo. Susie, Maya and I had so much fun working on this, giving tours, arranging demos and meeting everyone associated with it. We can’t wait for next year! Here’s the blog post written about the San Francisco Food Revolution Day by the lovely Shannon Longnecker of the Jamie…

Buddha’s Hand Citron (fingered citron) and Finger Limes
By Susie Wyshak, Epicuring I’m posting this as a backgrounder for anyone interested in this citrus which we recently highlighted at the St. George Spirits tasting and tour we hosted. Buddha’s Hand Citron (fingered citron) Grown at Lindcove Farm by John Kirkpatrick, supplier to St.George Spirits. The trees are very cold-sensitive, and require an almost frost-free location. 10 Liquor Factoids Absorbed at St. George Spirits
Post-Libation Thoughts from Susie: How often can cocktail conversation trivia actually revolve around cocktails? Not very. During our Epicuring Spooky Spirits event at St. George Spirits at Hangar 1 in Alameda, we not only enjoyed several creative libations such as The Root of All Evil – a root beer / absinthe concoction – we laughed and learned several important bits of information while touring the distillery: Bourbon only comes from the United States. Anything bourbon-like made elsewhere can’t be called bourbon. Consider it our “champagne.” California liquor manufacturers cannot directly sell their booze to the public. They have to sell it to a distributor then buy it back from the…

Welcome to Epicuring California!
We’re so excited that Epicuring.com has come to be. This project of Susie Wyshak and Laiko Bahrs, as well as the generous help of a great team, brings a dream and need to life! Epicuring came from Susie’s investigations of promoting California for tourism and our own efforts to plan an eating trip to Los Angeles. We found the effort of researching and planning made us realize taking a vacation is hard work! We created Epicuring as a resource for culinary adventurers to find interesting and hand-picked experiences in California. We’re focused on the San Francisco Bay Area for now, as we get feedback and iron out the kinks to…
